How can we help women and children facing domestic abuse in HK during Corona?

With Coronavirus still at the forefront and a lot of countries in complete lockdown, social distancing, unemployment, working from home, minding, and homeschooling children these circumstances have escalated domestic violence in a lot of households. Globally social welfare organizations have seen a huge increase in cases and women calling for help.

Currently, there are 2.97M active cases, 207K death, and 866K recoveries worldwide. To flatten the curve and stopping the spread of Coronavirus families are spending a lot of time together in confined spaces leading to tension, frustration, drinking, and violence. Many fear a monster inside their homes and also a virus outside the house. With social distancing, support from friends and family has been cut off, so many are facing physical, phycological, or sexual abuse alone.

As reported recently by SCMP, Hong Kong has seen a spike in domestic abuse cases against women and children.

How can we help Hong Kong charities?

Self-Employed Mummy has joined forces with Holly and Doris both yoga teachers. They are raising funds for Women helping Women Hong Kong. Please check out their website and you are also welcome to volunteer or donate directly.

Doris is an international yoga teacher originally from New York City and now based in Hong Kong. She is Yoga Alliance RYT500 certified yoga teacher. With strong desires to continue her self-discovery journey and a passion to share, Doris left her private equity job last year to solely dedicate her life to all things yoga and wellness.

Holly is a Yoga Alliance E-RYT200 and RPYT certified yoga teacher. Since Holly gave birth to a baby boy in 2018, she has been focusing her intentions on empowering women and families with prenatal, postnatal, and family yoga.

You can see details and registration information for an online charity event here. All donations collected through the yoga event will be deposit directly into the WHWHK bank account.

We need your support, many of these organizations are struggling financially because fundraising events have all been canceled. Every bit helps. You can be a part of this amazing initiative from the comfort of your home!

If you know of a charitable event that needs awareness and donations please send Self-Employed Mummy (SEM) a message and we can help spread the word.

Thank you so much for your continued support towards SEM. I appreciate you reading.

Yours in Love and Gratitude!
